Laura Wood Habr, is a 20 year veteran of the hospitality and restaurant business, and has also worked as an interior designer for nearly a decade. Laura blends these experiences into a unique greening approach that combines practical restaurant knowledge with a flair for style and marketability. Laura’s knowledge of sustainable and recyclable programs and products allows her to provide clients with consulting services that enable them to meet green certification guidelines as well as improve their environmental impact through selecting and using environmentally-friendly products and services.

In 2007, Laura’s Virginia Beach restaurant, Croc’s 19th Street Bistro, became the first certified Virginia Green restaurant in the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Virginia Green program and bears her trademarked term, “eco bistro.” She facilitated the greening of her restaurant from the building to the kitchen to the customer experience and has created a guideline that other restaurant and facility owners can follow to achieve their own green results. In addition to greening her own restaurant, Laura has led many efforts throughout the Virginia Beach region to make it a green destination, a designation the city received in the summer of 2008. Laura is an advocate for integrating sustainable practices into the hospitality industry and holds several roles that support her efforts. She sits on the Conserve Action Council of the National Restaurant Association, founded the Green Jobs Academy and has developed courses and curriculum for certification classes at the Virginia Tech Hampton Roads Campus, and established the local Virginia Beach Green Drinks chapter. She was also a founding member of the Old Beach Farmer’s Market, a certified Virginia Green, locally food-based and organic farmer’s market that her restaurant parking lot hosts each Saturday to promote the locavore movement.
